“Through architecture, I hope to create a framework for people to interact, grow, and learn. The choices we make in design affect lives in subtle but powerful ways and have the potential to create vibrant, vital communities.”

With over seven years of architectural experience, Andrew played an integral part in the modernization of Grant High School for Portland Public Schools. Throughout the four-year process of this large, complex project, he contributed to conceptual design, coordination, and technical development, then followed the project from construction to completion. This invaluable experience positioned him as a critical force on Edison Elementary School for the Eugene School District; Legacy High School/Hollingsworth Academy/Archway Academy alternative learning campus for Evergreen Public Schools, and more recently as a team member for the Graduate Housing project at Oregon State University.

Outside of the office, Andrew volunteers for the Architecture Foundation of Oregon’s Architects in Schools program and internally, he is an active member of Mahlum’s Construction Administration Support Group.

Andrew received his Master of Architecture from the University of Oregon and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rochester. He is a registered architect in the State of Oregon.

“My biggest drive is to help shape spaces that allow people to thrive while working, learning, and healing. I believe my role as a designer is to really listen to what users need, want, fear, and love, to frame our conversations to build our shared language and story. The joy comes from watching that story become their unique space where program, beauty, and budget complement each other.”

Claudia brings 16 years of interior design experience on a wide variety of project types including public works, educational facilities, life-science research facilities, student housing, and commercial workplaces. Her passions are as diverse as her experience and stem from a deep curiosity for how things work. From early planning through design, she is always searching for ways to openly engage clients and the team with the root goal of serving the people who will ultimately occupy and maintain the place. She offers a highly organized and critical approach to design thinking, constantly striving to create holistic environments – showcases of wellness, sustainability, and beauty.

Claudia received her Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from Arizona State University. She is NCIDQ Certified and is a member of the International Interior Design Association.

Igor Draskovic has been elevated to Associate. With 11 years of experience, he has worked on a broad range of projects, including healthcare and education facilities.

As Project Architect for the Benton County Crisis Center—the first voluntary walk-in treatment facility in Oregon—Igor made significant contributions to the conceptual design, coordination, behavioral health research, and technical development, following the project through construction. This project exemplifies his commitment to creating spaces that support healing for both patients and staff. He builds strong relationships with clients and contractors, always prioritizing the well-being of building occupants.

Known as a thoughtful problem solver, Igor identifies opportunities for improvement within technical and documentation processes. Building on lessons learned from Camas School District’s Joyce Garver Theater Renovation, he collaborated on a new graphic format for building reuse demolition drawings, which has been implemented firmwide on renovation projects. Whether leading discussions or supporting his team, he always keeps Mahlum’s vision in focus.

Igor received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a registered architect in the State of Washington.

Kari has 23 years of experience as an interior designer working with healthcare facilities, commercial and educational clients, and her favorite – libraries. She has a strong belief that the environments we design deeply impact how people engage with others, and the world as a whole. Kari thinks designers have the power to craft spaces that influence the emotions and mindset of its users. She feels that engaging clients as the experts in the design conversations creates more successful, unified projects.

Kari holds a Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is NCIDQ certified and a LEED Accredited Professional.

“I am inspired by a third grader’s imagination, their ability to express themselves in words and drawings, and to dream about what their school could be. It is gratifying to be able to translate a student’s words and drawings into a building and site.”

Laura has worked with educational clients at Mahlum for over a decade. When creating educational spaces, Laura is inspired by the imagination and abilities of young learners, and is adept at transforming their desires for an innovative learning community into reality.

Laura holds a Master of Architecture from University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Environmental Studies from Northeastern University. She is a registered architect in Washington.

Mariko’s talent and expertise serve multiple project types across the firm. Her advocacy for community-based projects lead thoughtful and inclusive solutions that meet the needs of both its community and stakeholders. For each project she engages, she goes the extra mile to develop strong relationships, resulting in inspirational spaces that embody environmental stewardship and offer long-term value and performance.

Mariko is an active member of Mahlum’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Continuing Education Committee and in service to historic preservation, she is a council member with Historic Seattle.

Mariko holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design from California State University, Sacramento. She is NCIDQ certified, a Certified Interior Designer in California, and a LEED Accredited Professional.

In the 18 years that Rod has worked at Mahlum, he has primarily focused on K-12 projects and consistently demonstrated his ability to help create exceptional education facilities with a highly collaborative and inclusive approach. Rod applies his passion for integrative sustainable design by finding synergetic solutions which support client goals and improve our impact on the health of building users and the environment.

He was integral to the development of Cascadia Elementary School, Robert Eagle Staff Middle School and Licton Springs K-8 for Seattle Public Schools, where a shared educational campus for the three schools replaced an outdated facility. Through careful planning, the team was able to maintain existing local artwork by preserving, relocating and reinstalling large, culturally-significant Native American murals painted on the original building’s walls.

Rod has a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech. He is a registered architect in Washington and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Joining Mahlum in 2017, Sunny helps project teams advance innovative and unique solutions for PreK-12 educational facilities. She holds a deep passion for keeping children safe by leading the effort to select healthy building materials with little to no toxic ingredients.

Sunny was a lead team member in the creation of a master plan framework for The Northwest School in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, and she deftly resolved technical details during construction at Seattle Girls’ School new south Seattle campus.

She also leads Mahlum’s involvement with an internship program where she mentors high school students who are interested in a career in architecture.

Sunny has a Master of Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from University of Minnesota. She is a registered architect in Washington.
