The Gray Middle School design unites program and context within a sequence of three parallel spaces — entry, gallery and outdoor learning — that extend across the long, narrow site. An entry plaza gathers students, teachers and the community beneath an allée of trees that presents a strong and welcoming civic identity.
Inside, a two-story gallery runs the length of this high performance facility, encouraging communication at all levels. Dynamic views into the gym, science labs and shared activity areas make learning visible, and reinforce a sense of the entire school working toward a common goal. Outdoor learning areas and green building features connect students with the natural world, engaging them in the cultivation of tomorrow’s sustainable communities.
